Wk 05: Hold On

Whew! Exciting weekend and just a preview of things to come. Very soon...like next weekend. Yes, there will be a shake up of the Top 10 since #4 and #10 play each other as well as #5 and #6. Not to mention the lesser teams that are already better prepared than their Top 25 opponent. There are 19 un-defeateds left - but not for long...

There were some close calls for the Top 25 and it just shows that the "lesser" teams are not as less as many might want to think. Stanford loss to an un-ranked; GaTech fell to Middle Tenn; and Ohio State, WVa, Texas, Nebraska, OR State, Boise State and even LSU had somewhat close games.

I feel a little bit vindicated for last weeks comments...almost like the BYU coaches read my mind (or my blog).  BYU easily handled Hawaii 47 - 0 and lets hope it was a good warm-up for the next few weeks (UT State, OR State, ND and GaTech). I was impressed that they started the right QB and made better play calls and that they didn't waste time just before the half. No whining this time - finally some kudos for the coaching.

The UGA-Tenn game was as I expected - close. Very close. Tennessee has some great, developing talent but they are playing slightly more talented (experienced) teams. Gotta hand it to UGA for there dynamic duo of running backs (that no one expected after the dismissal of what's-his-name last summer) and for a great offensive line to set their rushing stats (282 rushing yards).

I had the opportunity to bring the excitement of college football to a couple of newbies this week (thanks to Scotty offering up his tickets to the BYU game). Maybe they didn't catch all that was going on but surely they enjoyed the excitement of the environment (well...maybe not, but I did).
