And the Top 25 was baked well: #5 lost to an un-ranked; #6 had a scare; #8 had a scare; #3 lost to #9; and #15 lost bad. The cake is almost done and the first BCS rankings are out. There may not be much mixing left to do but I'm sure the icing, as always, will be debated.

I was never on the WVa bandwagon - although for some years I have been a Tommy Tuberville fan and I think we can expect big things from TT the next few years. The SEC-East is rattled and Florida decides the champ (Florida vs SCar then UGA over the next two weeks). Florida seems to be lucky - I am not yet convinced they are as good as the ranking shows. The same goes for LSU. And honestly...'Bama, too. Look at who they are beating up: nobody of any substance...yet. Stanford's loss will not bode well with USC computer rankings and Oregon State is making their case for the PAC title anyway. Texas just doesn't look like Texas. They have some work to do.

Really? A black-out? On homecoming? If you want to wear black because it makes you look tough or skinny or scary or it's Halloween - fine. But if it's not one of your colors then boo-hoo...you don't get to wear black. And if you do it anyway then don't do it against a team who legally owns black as one of their colors.
And its not just BYU. Multiple teams have done this. And if you are going to use "combat" uniforms they should also have your colors (unlike the combat unis that SCar used in their loss to LSU).
And the cost? Well those figures are not made public but basic research shows it is probably around $500 a player for a basic helmet jersey, pants and shoes - and that does not include the shoes, design costs, special logos, etc. My conservative estimate: BYU spent some $50,000 on non-BYU colored uniforms that resulted in a loss and won't be used again anytime soon - and that does not include the all-black unis for the coaches, dance team and the cheerleaders. Some teams will do this then auction off the unis after the game to offset the cost. That seems a more sensible approach to new unis. Yes - they sold a mountain of black t-shirts, hats, etc. and that may have paid the bill. (You can see more BYU blackout pictures HERE).

(Get it? "End Zone"...ha, ha). Here we are in the 4th quarter of the BYU-OS game with BYU hanging in there until six minutes left and then the wheels start falling off: OS gets two "lucky bounce touchdowns", a pick-six, then a BYU special teams flub, etc. The mostly packed stadium begins to unravel. Sitting one row in front of me and about seven people to my left is girl with a $20 bill hanging out of her back pocket. I watch...waiting for someone to take it or tell her since they were a lot closer than I was. Like 30 minutes goes by and no one says a thing to her. Then the whole area opened up after OS's last TD and still no one said a thing. I snapped a pic and then told her she was about to lose $20.

Why is security gathering in the north end zone? Oh wait - that's the OS fans. |
